Greetings and Welcome! On January 16th 1920, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated was founded on the campus of Howard University by five women; Arizona L. Cleaver (Stemons), Viola Tyler (Goings), Myrtle Tyler (Faithful), Fannie Pettie (Watts), and Pearl Anna (Neal). The Sorority was established "on the simple belief that sorority elitism and socializing should not overshadow the real mission for progressive organizations - to address societal mores, ills, prejudices, poverty, and health concerns of the day." Our principles are SCHOLARSHIP, SERVICE, SISTERLY LOVE, and FINER WOMANHOOD.
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was the first of all 9 Historically Black Greek Letter Organizations (HBGLO's) to establish a centralized headquarters for operations, form auxiliary groups, and charter chapters internationally (Africa & Germany). Its early charters included Howard University, Morris Brown College, Morgan State College, and later to Wiley College, making it the first HBGLO to organize a collegiate chapter in the racially hostile "deep south".
Zeta Phi Beta boasts more than 800 chapters and over 100,000 members across the globe including Africa (Liberia & Sierra Leone) in 1948, the Bahamas, Germany, the continental United States, Hawaii, West Africa, Bahamas Islands, Virgin Islands, South Korea, Japan, and Italy. Zeta Phi Beta is the first and only HBGLO constitutionally bound to a fraternity; Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
Gamma Zeta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. of Columbus Ohio has a more than 70 year history of serving the community. Programs have included Night at the Races, The Sapphire & Pearl Scholarship Ball, Project Zeta, From Girls to Pearls, and more. In order to build upon a tradition of programmatic viability and service efficacy, the Gamma Zeta Zeta Education Foundation Inc. 501 (c) 3 was formed in 2009. The foundation specifically supports instructional enrichment, health education, scholarship, outreach, and community engagement. Academic scholarships are awarded to deserving students annually.
Organizational partnerships and collaborations include Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc, the National Pan Hellenic Council, March of Dimes, American Red Cross, the Neighborhood House of Central Ohio, the American Diabetes Association, Let'sMove, the NAACP, Keep Columbus Beautiful, and more.
