SCHOLARSHIPS and AWARDS

JANICE CASTLE TRAILBLAZER AWARD

The Janice Castle Trailblazer Award was established in 2010, by the Gamma Zeta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, in memory of Soror Janice Elaine Castle. Affectionately named the Janice Castle "Trailblazer" Award, because much like the founders of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated., Janice Castle had the desire to provide true SERVICE, to embrace SCHOLARSHIP, to set a standard for SISTERLY LOVE and to display FINER WOMANHOOD.

She originally started as an Amicae and after receiving her Bachelor’s Degree, became a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. She graduated from East High School in1971, Columbus Technical Institute (Aka Columbus State Community College) in 1973 and attended Ohio Dominican University and The Ohio State University. She had 4 children, and as a member of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Janice served faithfully the mission of the church by contributing her time, talent, influence and means to the Nurses Corps, Educational Committee, Youth Department, Young Adult Choir and B.T.U. Choir. Her volunteer and community

involvement included board member Columbus East-side Y.M.C.A., member and officer of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. Gamma Zeta Zeta Chapter, sponsor of the United Negro College Fund and volunteer of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Breakfast. Soror Castle went on to be with our Lord on Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009, at age 55, following a courageous battle with cancer.
